Flyers & Posters
Some work does not begin with an extensive brief. It begins with a slow afternoon, a question with no paid client attached, sometimes a community opportunity waiting to be solved, a friend; a visual problem worth solving for its own sake. Posters and flyers belong to that category for me, one-time objects that permit a kind of thinking that longer projects do not always allow. The thinking behind them is not casual, however. Diagramming, grid systems, typographic hierarchy, the foundations of visual organization. A well-constructed poster is an argument made entirely through composition: where the eye enters, where it rests, what it holds. The research here is personal rather than quantitative, but the rigor is the same. The grid does not care whether the project is a campaign or a single sheet
